How to create your own custom wallpaper for iOS 16

Recently, Apple updated its software to include an option that allows users to completely customize their iOS 16 lock screen. 

For instance, you have the option to stick with the standard wallpaper options Apple provides (there are a lot), and then adding custom lock screen widgets based on what apps you use most. 

If you want to take it a step further, other wallpaper features include using photo shuffle so you can experience multiple images, trying out the tiled emoji option, playing with various color options, or using the current weather as your lock screen.

Plus, don’t forget, Apple even lets you play around with tints and styles. Change the background tint on any photo, experiment with the font style for the time, and don’t forget that you can switch up where widgets are displayed on your screen.

How can you design your iPhone wallpaper with Photoleap?

Step 1: Come up with your concept

With Photoleap, the sky’s the limit when coming up with your iPhone lock screen design. This is all thanks to AI creation tools.  

With this tool, any image that you want can quickly and easily become your lock screen. All you have to do is simply type it into the app, and voila, Photoleap’s AI Text-to-Image tool will immediately spit that image back out to you. 

For instance, let’s say you want an image for your lock screen that wouldn’t be impossible to achieve in your everyday life, something like “a cute puppy in outer space.”

To create this wallpaper for your lock screen, navigate to the ‘Describe it’ feature on the Photoleap homepage, located under the AI creation tools. 

Simply describe the image you have in mind to get started. If you have a specific style or vibe you’re aiming for, you can select from a variety of options including Anime, Dystopia, and Film. From here, all you have to do is hit ‘Generate’ and within a few moments you’ll be shown a few different image options based on your prompt. 

Step 2: Pick your favorite option 

Flip through the various options or feel free to navigate back using the arrow in the top left of the screen and edit your prompt as you see fit. You can also select new styles if you weren’t happy with your original selection. 

Step 3: Start editing 

So you’ve now got this super unique, cool photo for your lock screen, but that’s not where the fun ends. Now you get to edit the photo and truly make it your own. 

To begin, click ‘Edit’ in the top right corner. 

From here, you’ll be brought into a new screen where you now have plenty of editing tools at your disposal.

Step 4: Crop 

You’re likely going to want to crop your image so it fits your iPhone lock screen. 

To do this, click ‘Canvas’ at the bottom of the screen, and then ‘Sizes’.

You’ll then notice that Photoleap provides you with multiple size options depending on what you’re working on. In this case, select the iPhone option that applies to you. 

Step 5: Add effects, stickers, text, etc. 

Feel free to play around with the various editing tools at the bottom of your screen.

In this example, we added a sticker (via ‘Stickers’) and adjusted the background to be darker (via ‘Adjust’). 

Keep in mind, if you tap on the image, another set of tools appears. These tools will show up for each individual layer that you create in your image. 

For instance, if I tap the heart in this example, that is a separate layer, while the original dog image is another layer. 

Having these layers allows you to edit individual items without changing the rest of the image. For instance, we added a vignette to the original dog image (via ‘Effects’) without the heart sticker being impacted.  

Play around with this, and don’t forget to have fun!

Step 6: Export and save 

Once you’re happy with your creation, click ‘Save’ in the top right of your screen. 

You’ll then be prompted to export your image, which you’ll need to do if you want to make the image your lock screen.

Step 7: Set lock screen 

To set your lock screen, go to your photos, select the image you just exported, and click the button in the far left, bottom corner that looks like an arrow with a square running around it. 

Once you scroll down, you’ll see an option that says ‘Use as Wallpaper’.

Select this and say hello to your new iPhone lock screen design.
